| Hello, my name is Barbara and I am a long-arm machine quilter. Allow me to transform your pieced quilt tops into finished treasures that will become a treasured family heirloom to be passed down from generation to generation. I use a hand guided machine with patterns ranging from simple to complex. While this is machine quilting, the machine is hand guided, making each piece unique. Take a look the handcrafted unique line of gifts I offer for yourself or the quilter in your life. |

Scheduling
Call or email to schedule your initial consultation as early as possible, especially if you have a deadline to meet.
Your initial consultation will include:
- Measuring your quilt top and backing.
- Discussing quilting options, thread choices and batting.
- Completion of your order form, detailing the choices you have made for your quilt.
Batting Information:
I use top of the line batting, because I have found they have the quality and durability that meet the needs of longarm machine quilting. It is delivered on long rolls that mount directly under my machine. Or, you may provide your own batting.
Quilt Preparation
Top
- Clip any loose threads. Stray threads will show through lighter fabrics and they can cause snags and uneven stitching.
- It's a good idea to stay-stitch about one-fourth inch around your top to stabilize the edges, especially if you have pieced edges. Check for loose seams.
- Label the quilt top and back top if necessary with a note paper marked "TOP" and secure the note with a safety pin to keep it attached to the fabric.
- Save any embellishments such as buttons and bows until after the quilt has been quilted. These are almost impossible to quilt around safely and can damage your quilt and/or my machine.
Backing
- All quilt backing and batting should be squared up and pressed, and needs to be at least 6" wider and 6" longer on all sides, than the quilt top. This allows me room to load on my machine. If you have washed your top fabric, wash and press the backing before shipping. This assures equal shrinkage.
- No bed sheets for backing. The fabric is too dense, and in turn it prevents needle penetration causing skipped stitches and thread breaks.
- If seaming backing, please trim off the selvages before joining fabric. If you are piecing the backing and have a choice, run seams along the width of the backing instead of down the length. It rolls onto the machine easier and prevents unnecessary stretching and possibility of puckering.

Miscellaneous Information
- Do not pin or baste your quilt in any way and check for stray pins.
- If you aren't already a "pre-wash" convert, consider pre-shrinking all material before cutting/ assembling your quilt. This will avoid "bleeding" of fabrics (particularly reds) and ensure an even shrinkage across all fabrics in Top and Backing.
- Edges are often longer than the center of the quilt. If you cut a border strip of fabric, sew it to an edge, trim it off, and repeat around the quilt, chances are that the borders will be longer than the center of the quilt, resulting in "ruffled" borders. To avoid ruffled borders, measure the center of your quilt, cut the first set of border strips to that length, mark the centers of the strips and the centers of the sides of the quilt, and pin from the center out to each side, easing in fullness. If your quilt is large, take three measurements across the center and each side, average the measurements, and use that number for your border length. Re-measure and repeat for the second set of borders. Repeat this technique for all borders.
